Board of Trade Supports City’s Recent Call for Increased Police Downtown

The Board of Trade supports the City of St. John’s in its recent call for increased policing and a more visible RNC presence in the downtown core. We have been engaging with downtown businesses and have heard consistent and growing concerns about safety as business owners are increasingly worried about the experiences of their employees and customers, highlighting incidents of aggressive behaviour, acts of violence, and an overall sense of unease.

There is a clear and collective desire among businesses for enhanced safety measures, and many believe that an increased police presence would significantly improve the sense of security for those who work, visit, and spend time in the area.

A safer downtown is vital to the success of our business community and the overall vibrancy of our city. The Board of Trade will continue to advocate for the needs of our members and ensure their voices are heard as we work together to shape a safer, more welcoming downtown for everyone.
