St. John’s Board of Trade and Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council Working Towards Merger

St. John’s, NL – The St. John’s Board of Trade and the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council are working to bring their years of experience representing the provincial business community under one roof to be a stronger, more effective, member-focused organization.

For years both organizations have been a trusted voice of business, ensuring that the perspectives and input of business owners and operators have been informing policy makers to create a province conducive to and competitive for business. Both the Board of Trade and Employers’ Council have been dedicated to reducing the burden placed on businesses and making our province an attractive place to invest and grow.

“As two organizations with such similar mandates it truly makes sense for us to join together in this way,” said Judy Sparkes-Giannou, Chair, Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council. “I am confident that our members and stakeholders will receive even more value and support from the experience and expertise of our combined team.”

As part of this move, the St. John’s Board of Trade is requesting to change its name to the Newfoundland and Labrador Board of Trade. As most of the advocacy work is provincial in scope, an inclusive name will represent members and reflect ongoing initiatives.

“This is an exciting time for our organization and our members,” said AnnMarie Boudreau, CEO, St. John’s Board of Trade. “We will be better positioned to serve our members and to partner with other Chambers and industry associations on key activities and initiatives by having a name that is provincial in scope.”

The new organization will remain focused on delivering results and serving the needs of its members. Members of both the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council and the St. John’s Board of Trade will continue to receive the benefits and support they expect and need.
